Coordinating a complex response

Assess & triage
Identify all casualties and prioritise treatment order where more than one person is injured.

Coordinate responders
Direct other first aiders and bystanders to the right tasks.

Primary survey
Advanced DRSABCD assessment across each casualty.

Advanced treatment
Apply higher-level treatment and allocate available resources across casualties.

Manage until EMS
Maintain treatment and monitoring until emergency services take over.

Handover
Brief paramedics clearly on each casualty, treatment given and condition changes.

Debrief
Review the response with your team and document the incident.

Certification & delivery

HLTAID014 — nationally recognised unitA certificate is issued on successful completion of practical assessment, in line with the issuing RTO’s training and assessment strategy. Annual renewal is recommended for staff in a designated response-coordination role.
Who should attend

Senior first aiders, supervisors, safety officers and team leaders who may need to coordinate a response involving multiple casualties or responders. Provide First Aid is a recommended prerequisite.

Delivery & assessment

A full day — theory, demonstrations, coached practice and assessment, including scenario-based team exercises. Onsite delivery for groups of 6+ anywhere in PNG.
